Special Education Services

Special Education Services

Special education services are available to provide for the needs of our students. Some services exist within our schools, others are provided outside of the district through special education cooperatives.

Special services within our schools are:

  • Early childhood screening
  • Resource program for children with learning disabilities
  • Speech and language remediation
  • Counseling and social work services
  • Psychological services and/or case study evaluations
  • School nurse services
  • Early childhood class
  • Instructional support program

Additional services are provided to our students through the North DuPage Special Education Cooperative and the DuPage/West Cook Regional Special Education Association. These services include:

  • Learning disabilities
  • Multi-needs
  • Behavior disorders
  • Visually impaired
  • Hearing impaired
  • Orthopedically impaired
  • Speech and language remediation
  • Psychological services
  • Audiological services
  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Parent-infant training

Students with disabilities  who do not qualify for an individualized education program, as required by the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and implementing provisions of the School Code, may qualify for services under Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 if the child (1) physical of mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, (2) has a record of a physical or mental impairment, or (3) if regarded as having a physical or mental impairment.
