Student Privacy in Bloomingdale District 13

Bloomingdale School District 13 gathers usage data on the EdTech tools used in the district in a way that efficiently and effectively bring the information to one place. Thanks to a partnership with LearnPlatform, District 13 provides a tool to our staff to not only gather data to identify the usage of resources, but to identify the effectiveness and fidelity of the tools for student learning.

This tool comes with a few other features that District 13 will begin using, including a public library of resources approved for use in the district. This public library offers a centralized location to review EdTech tools approved for use in District 13, and supports the District’s Mission of: Developing actively involved learners, well rounded students, and responsible citizens in partnership with the community.

Finally, this tool will provide our district with data to make decisions on the impact they are having on student success, which will assist our district to make more informed decisions to renew a tool or seek the use of more effective online tools.

What is SOPPA (Student Online Personal Protection Act)

Effective July 1, 2021, school districts in Illinois are required by the Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA) to provide additional guarantees that student data is protected when collected by educational technology companies, and that data is used for beneficial purposes only (105 ILCS 85).
