President Donald Litchfield called the regular meeting of the Board of Education of Bloomingdale Elementary District 13 to order on Monday, August 22, 2005 in the district office at 7:32 p.m.

Roll Call
Present: Mrs. Patricia Bach, Mrs. Diane Birkley, Mrs. Mary Ellen Johnson, Ms. Tamara Peterson, Dr. Donald Litchfield

Absent: Mr. Terence McKeown, Mrs. Linda Wojcicki

Budget Hearing
A motion was made by Ms. Peterson and seconded by Mrs. Johnson to open the budget hearing at 7:34 p.m. Voice Vote: all ayes

As no one from the public attended the hearing to offer comments, a motion was made by Ms. Peterson and seconded by Mrs. Bach to close the budget hearing at 7:39 p.m.

Consent Agenda

Superintendent’s Report

Board Reports and Requests

FY2006 Budget Adoption (F.D. 8/22/05-6)
A motion was made by Mrs. Johnson and seconded by Ms. Peterson to adopt the FY2006 budget as presented by Janis Prehn and authorize its submission to the Illinois State Board of Education as shown in F.D. 8/22/05-6.

Lighting Grant Proposal (F.D. 8/22/05-8)
A motion was made by Mrs. Bach and seconded by Ms. Peterson to enter into a contract with All Tech Lighting to retrofit the lighting at Erickson School in the amount of $31,903.76, as recommended by Greg Leyden and shown in F.D. 8/22/05-8.

IASB DuPage Fall Dinner
Board members were asked to let Dr. Perkins or Mrs. Ogden know if they plan to attend the IASB DuPage Fall Dinner meeting to be held at Argonne National Laboratory on September 29.

Annual Law Conference
Dr. Perkins requested that the Board let he or Mrs. Ogden know if they plan to attend the Fourth Annual Law Conference sponsored by the law firm, Ottosen Trevarthen Britz Kelly & Cooper, Ltd. on Saturday, September 24.

Quarterly Investment Report
The Board reviewed the Fourth Quarter Investment Report for the period ending June 30, 2005. The report shows a much higher investment return since the third quarter.

Topics for Future Agendas
Mrs. Bach suggested the topic of "brain research" be included on a future agenda. Dr. Perkins and Dr. Schielke indicated the district will be focusing on differentiation, as opposed to brain research, and they will come back to the Board with a report on this topic next spring.

Article Published by Erickson Teacher
The Board reviewed an article published in the Pack-o-Fun magazine written by Erickson teacher, Ellen Zywiciel.

Closed Session
A motion was made by Ms. Peterson and seconded by Mrs. Johnson to enter into closed session after taking a short break at 8:46 p.m. for the purpose of discussing security procedures and the use of personnel and equipment to respond to an actual, a threatened, or a reasonably potential danger to the safety of employees, students, staff, the public, or public property. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(8), as amended by P.A. 93-79 and P.A. 93-422, as well as a discussion on the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1), as amended by P.A. 93-0057.

The Board returned to regular session at 9:41 p.m.

A motion was made by Mrs. Bach and seconded by Mrs. Johnson to adjourn the meeting. Voice Vote: all ayes

The meeting was adjourned at 9:42 p.m.
