Citizens Request to the Board
No one from the audience chose to address the Board.
Dr. Perkins gave a review of the 20-plus year history of this Board having annual retreats. For a number of years, the retreat was a two-day retreat. In the last decade, it has been moved to a one-day retreat format. Retreats have been held all but one of the last 16 years, and 14 of those 15 have been held at a local hotel.
Dr. Perkins shared a variety of materials with the school board members present. These included a list of questions related to succession planning, as well as a three-year timeline showing exit dates and proposed recruitment dates for new administrators. Additionally, job descriptions, role responsibilities, and a journal article on the topic were shared. This discussion was necessary because eight of the eleven district administrators and directors will be retiring between 2011 and 2013.
The Board reviewed the data presented and discussed the current role responsibilities of Assistant Superintendent for Learning Linda Schielke and Special Education Coordinator Fred Louderman. The consensus of the group seemed to be that these two positions should be replaced as they currently are described when vacated in the summer of 2011.
The Board still needs to have future discussions about concepts such as the following:
Board Member Role in Hearing and Representing the Public
President Peterson and Superintendent Perkins discussed suggestions for the Board in reviewing, hearing, and discussing public comments made at their meetings.
A motion was made by Mrs. Klco and seconded by Mrs. Birkley to adjourn the meeting. Voice Vote: all ayes
The meeting was adjourned at 9:25 p.m.

Linda Wojcicki, Secretary
