SESSION SCHOOL BOARD MEETING MINUTES
Monday, January 23, 2006
Vice-President Terence McKeown called the regular meeting of the Board of Education of Bloomingdale Elementary School District 13 to order on Monday, January 23, 2006 in the District office at 7:32 p.m.
Present: Mrs. Patricia Bach, Mrs. Diane Birkley, Mrs. Mary Ellen Johnson, Ms. Tamara Peterson, Mrs. Linda Wojcicki (Dr. Donald Litchfield entered the meeting at 8:20 p.m.) (Mr. Terence McKeown left the meeting at 9:14 p.m.)

Tax Levy Hearing
A motion was made by Mrs. Wojcicki and seconded by Ms. Peterson to open the Tax Levy Hearing at 7:36 p.m. Voice Vote: all ayes
As no one from the audience had questions regarding the tax levy process, a motion was made by Mrs. Johnson and seconded by Mr. McKeown to close the Tax Levy Hearing at 7:37 p.m. Voice Vote: all ayes
A motion was made by Mrs. Wojcicki and seconded by Ms. Peterson to approve the items shown in the Consent Agenda to include the Regular and Closed Session Minutes from the 12-19-05 meeting; the Approval of Bills in the Education Fund for $68,402.27, the Operations and Maintenance Fund for $59,235.00, the Transportation Fund for $50,044.33, Payroll (1-10-06) for $364,464.88 and (1-25-06) for $331,242.98 as shown in F.D. 1/23/06-1; the Fund Balance Report as shown in F.D. 1/23/06-2; the Revenue Report as shown in F.D. 1/23/06-3; the Expenditure Report as shown in F.D. 1/23/06-4; the Resignations of Earl Overman as Principal of Westfield Middle School effective 6-30-06, Nicole Pancratz as a paraprofessional at Westfield effective 1-2-06, and Erin Gaffey as a paraprofessional at Westfield effective 1-20-06; the Employment of Nancy Crawford as a paraprofessional at Erickson School effective 1-9-06 for a salary of $10.50 per hour, Amy Polomsky as a paraprofessional at Westfield effective 1-18-06 for a salary of $9.75 per hour, and Nancy Giaccone as a part-time paraprofessional for Early Childhood effective 1- 18-06 for a salary of $9.50 per hour; the Termination of Greg Bodine as a paraprofessional at Westfield effective 1-3-06.

Board Reports and Requests
Elementary Science Textbook Adoption (F.D. 1/23/06-6)
A motion was made by Ms. Peterson and seconded by Mrs. Bach to approve the adoption of the elementary science textbook series from Harcourt Publishers for a cost of $74,508.92 as shown in F.D. 1/23/06-6.

2006-2007 School Calendar (F.D. 1/23/06-7)
A motion was made by Mrs. Johnson and seconded by Mrs. Wojcicki to adopt the school calendar for 2006-2007 as shown in F.D. 1/23/06-7. Voice Vote: all ayes
Closed Session Minutes Review & Destruction of Audio Tapes (F.D. 1/23/06-8)
A motion was made by Ms. Peterson and seconded by Mrs. Wojcicki to continue to keep current closed session minutes unavailable for public release and to authorize the destruction of audio tapes for the period of January 6, 2004 through June 14, 2004. Voice Vote: all ayes
2006-2007 School Fees (F.D. 1/23/06-9)
After hearing the rationale for increasing the school fees for next school year year, a motion was made by Ms. Peterson and seconded by Mrs. Wojcicki to approve the fee schedule for 2006-2007 as shown in F.D. 1/23/06-9.

Quarterly Investment Report
The Board reviewed the Quarterly Investment Report for the period ending December 30, 2005. For the first time in several years, the district has realized an investment return of over $100,000 for the year. Dr. Litchfield and other board members expressed their thanks and appreciation to Finance Director Janis Prehn for her continued sound management of the district’s finances.
Topics for March 13th Board Retreat
The Board decided on topics to be discussed at the March 13th Board Retreat, which will be held at the Eaglewood Doral in Itasca. Following is the preliminary list of discussion items:
• How to assess ad hoc requests? What type of criteria is used?
• Citizens Advisory Council tasks
• Board goals
The Board may call a special meeting in May or June to discuss the district’s gifted program.
IASA DuPage Winter Dinner/Meeting
The Board will not attend this year’s winter dinner/meeting as the date of February 28 conflicts with the Education Foundation’s fundraiser.
Scariano Law Seminar
Board members were asked to notify Dr. Perkins or Mrs. Ogden if they intend to attend the Scariano Law Seminar on February 18.
Dr. Perkins asked the Board to review the revised draft of the community and parent surveys and offer any last suggestions or comments. Mrs. Bach requested that the section pertaining to a hot lunch program be changed to indicate a "parent-paid" hot lunch program. The surveys will be mailed out on February 24th with a March 15th due date.
