Welcome to 8th Grade Science!

Here are the topics we will be covering this year in 8th grade science. With the incorporation of the Next Generation Science Standards, there will be no textbooks given to the students to take home. However, they will be provided with multiple texts to use throughout their studies.
  • Structures and Processes of Multiple Systems in the Body
  • Heredity: Inheritance and Variation of Traits
  • Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity
  • Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions
  • Energy
  • Role of Gravity in the Motions within the Galaxies and the Solar System
  • Waves and their Technological Applications
We will be implementing Next Generation Science Standards into the classroom. NGSS incorporates the eight science practices. These science practices mirrors how professional scientists and engineers work in the real world. It will help develop a student's understanding of the nature of science and how it works. The practices are:
  1. Asking questions and defining problems
  2. Developing and using models
  3. Planning and carrying out investigations
  4. Analyzing and interpreting data
  5. Using mathematics and computational thinking
  6. Constructing explanations and designing solutions
  7. Engaging in argument from evidence
  8. Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information

Some of the exciting projects that the students will be engaged in this year:
  • Owl Pellet Discovery
  • Car Safety Lab
  • Roller Coaster Creations
  • Passive Solar Homes
