When does your child need services?

Many parents and teachers question when to refer a child for speech-language services.  Speech and language therapy is provided in the school setting as soon as a child turns 3 years old.  If a child's speech and language skills fall below the age-appropriate range, therapy is recommended.

The purpose of speech-language therapy is to address the communication difficulties that a child my be exhibiting.  Within the public school setting, this communication difficulty must be negatively impacting educational success within the academic areas for a child to be eligible for services.
