For many children, a safe, happy, caring
classroom environment is the starting point toward a bright future.
As students learn to care and develop positive character traits,
they experience success both academically and socially.
Forming happy, socially-responsible
children should be the goal of every parent and teacher. Our
future depends on it. As your child's first grade teacher this
will be an area we will concentrate on and develop throughout the
year.
As members of our classroom community,
students will really get to know one another. My goal to to
ensure that all children will feel that they
belong there and add to the classroom. Students will know they are cared for and will be
expected to care for others.
Respect is a key component in
our classrooms and will be modeled throughout the year. We will
demonstrate our respect towards the children in many ways, one being
that we will value their thoughts, ideas, and suggestions.
Therefore, our students will be involved in the decision making
process that affects our classrooms. We will also demonstrate
our
respect for them by encouraging them to do their very best and
praising them for jobs done well.
We will have clear
expectations for student work and behaviors. We, the first
grade teachers and the students will view mistakes as a natural part
of the learning process and not as a sign of failure. Students
are viewed as responsible learners and treated in such a manner.
They will collaborate with classmates on schoolwork for better
understanding.
We will also celebrate the
diversity of individual skills and talents brought to our classroom.
Children will also feel the support and security that comes from
being part of a group. While at the same time, maintaining
their individuality and feeling free to differ from others in class.
