Rehearsals

Concert Choir is a year long activity which takes place during the lunch period.  A typical 50 minute class period will involve 30 minutes of singing followed by 20 minutes for eating lunch.  The Concert Choir is open to any Westfield student.  Their is no audition and everyone is invited to join regardless of their prior singing background.

Show Choir meets two  mornings each week at 7:30.  This group is composed of students who are also members of the Concert Choir.  The Show Choir will perform selections that are more upbeat and include choreography.  Show Choir members will be issued a calendar indicating rehearsal dates.    You may also check the calendar link for a complete schedule for the year.  Students may participate in both the choir and band programs.  Since band and Show Choir have conflicting before school rehearsals, Mrs. Krzysiak and Ms. Metzger will arrange the schedules to accommodate students who wish to excel musically and participate in both groups.

Students may also participate in Student Council.  Student Council meetings are held every other Wednesday morning on NON CHOIR days.  There will not be any conflicts between the two groups.

Attendance is required at all rehearsals.  The success of the choir program relies on the dedication of ALL participants.  Show Choir  begin promptly at 7:30 am and each singer should be ready to begin at that time (not walking in the door at 7:30).  If a student will be absent from school on a Choir day, he/she will be excused from that rehearsal.  The office will notify Mrs. Krzysiak of the students who are absent.  Oversleeping is not a legitimate excuse for missing a Show Choir rehearsal.  If a singer has a sore throat and cannot sing on a particular day, he/she should still attend rehearsal.  They will not be required to sing.  Much can be learned from observing a rehearsal.  Students should not plan to meet with another teacher during choir rehearsals.  Westfield teachers are supportive of the choir program and will try their best to meet with choir students during non rehearsal times for extra help.  It is the students responsibility to inform the teacher of this conflict.  Each Wednesday, the Concert Choir members will have a study hall time instead of choir.  This will allow singers time to meet with other teachers to finish projects or receive additional help with work.

Attendance is taken at all rehearsals.  Any student with more than 4 unexcused absences or excessive tardies may be asked to leave the group.  It is school policy that all students who participate in extra curricular activities must maintain passing grades in all of their classes.  Therefore, all choir members must also be aware of their grades so that they may be allowed to attend rehearsals and participate in performances.  Since this is a St. Louis trip year, 3rd Quarter grades will be monitored closely.  Any band or choir student who is failing a 3rd Quarter class may not be allowed to participate in the St. Louis trip.
