Homework Grading- 2,1,0

Homework grades will be determined by a 2,1,0 scoring system.  Assignments that will receive these grades are Friday journals, reading strategies, readers workshop reflections, and other daily assignments.  The 2,1,0 grades will not be directly factored into the final grade, but used at the end of the quarter to assess the students effort and preparedness for class.  The scale below shows the scoring system for 2,1,0:

2 = 80% and above

1 = 60-79%

0 = below 60%

Grading Scale

A 100-90         B 89-80

C 79-70          D 69-60

Assignments

Grades will be determined on a points system.  Tests and projects will have the most weight.  Daily assignments and other homework will be scored on a 2,1,0 system and factored into the final grade at the end of the quarter based on where your student stands.  The "daily warm-up" has an equivalent grade of a quiz.  Current event reactions will also be scored as a quiz because I will be assessing several skills at once throughout the school year in that assignment.

What will my son/daughter learn in Social Studies?

In 7th grade the focus is on United States History through the Civil War.  We will focus on many key events that helped shape the nation become what it is today.  We will start at early explorations and colonization of the Americas.  From there we will move onto the American Revolution and the creation of our constitution.  Finally, we will journey through the 1800's and look at the events that split the United States and led to the Civil War.
