Tips on how to talk to your child about alcohol, smoking, and drugs

*  The more you TALK to your child about alcohol, smoking, drugs, the more likely they will NOT engage in alcohol, smoking, and drugs.

*  Kids respect and listen to adults when you tell them the truth.  If your child ask you if you ever smoked, or drank when you were a kid, or tried any drugs, be HONEST.  Let them know that you made a mistake.

*  Let your child know that as they get into high school and they choose to have alcohol at a party and that them or their driver is drunk, that the smartest thing to do is call you and ask for a ride home because them or they're driver is drunk.

*  Tell your kids the dangers of drugs.

*  Tell your kids the dangers of smoking.

*  If you personally smoke, let your kids know how addicting it is and how hard it is to quit.

*  The worst thing you can do is NOT talk to your child.  Develop a relationship with your child where they feel comfortable to talk to you about this stuff.
