For the bulk of our math we will be working in TRAILBLAZERS. We will also be implementing Rocket Math to help us gain mastery over math facts.
Our units are as follows: The current unit is in red.: Unit 1: Welcome to First Grade Unit 2: Exploring Shapes Unit 3: Pennies, Pockets and Parts Unit 4: Adding to Solve Problems Unit 5: Grouping and Counting Unit 6: Measurement Unit 7: Patterns and Design Unit 8: Subtracting to Solve Problems Unit 9: Grouping by Tens and Ones Unit 10: Measurement: Area-For this unit we would like students to be able to measure length in inches, estimate area by covering shapes with nonstandard units, measure area by covering shapes with square inches and half-square inches, recognize that different shapes have the same area, report areas using numbers and units, collect and organize data in a table. Unit 11: Looking Back at 100 ROCKET MATH will be introduced to children during the third quarter. We may ask for parental assistance in learning math facts at home. Unit 12: Cubes and Volume Unit 13: Thinking About Addition and Subtraction Unit 14: Exploring Multiplication and Division Unit 15: Exploring 3-D Shapes Unit 16: Collecting and Organizing Data17: Moving Beyond 100 Unit 18: Pieces, Parts, and Symmetry- Unit 19: Measurement and Mapping Unit 20: Looking Back at First Grade--For this unit we would like students to be able to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems and explain their reasoning, identify and extend patterns, use data to solve problems, use math facts strategies to add. Units 16-20 are non-core (blue) units and are covered as time allows.
