WHAT DO I DO IF MY STUDENT FORGETS TO
BRING THEIR LUNCH TO SCHOOL?
There is a table in the front vestibule, outside the main office,
where parents place lunches. Students come down at the beginning
of their lunch hour and pick up their lunch to take to the cafeteria.
Parents need to be sure to check the time that their student has
scheduled lunch so the food is available during the student’s
assigned lunch time. Lunches are not delivered to students.
WHAT DO I DO IF MY STUDENT FORGETS TO
BRING THEIR GYM UNIFORM, BOOKS, SPORTS EQUIPMENT OR COMPLETED ASSIGNMENTS
TO SCHOOL?
We cannot guarantee personal delivery of equipment, materials, clothing
or supplies to students during the school day. Rather than interrupt
classes, we call students to the office during the passing period
and deliver these items to the student should they come to the office
to pick up the forgotten item(s).
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY STUDENT USES THEIR
CELL PHONE (EVEN TEXT MESSAGING OR CAMERA) IN SCHOOL OR THE PHONE
RINGS DURING CLASS?
It is in the best interest of the educational environment that phones
be turned off during the school day and stored in a student’s
locker. Should the student have the phone out during the school
day, or they are found receiving or sending calls, camera usage
or messages, the phone will be confiscated by school personnel.
A detention issued and parents are required to come to the school
to retrieve the phone. Regarding cell phone usage, more disciplinary
action could be taken.
CAN STUDENTS MAKE PHONE CALLS FROM THE
MAIN OFFICE TELEPHONE?
There is a land line telephone in the main office that students
are allowed to use for emergency or urgent situations. Calls need
to be short and kept to the minimum.
WHAT DO I DO IF I NEED TO TAKE MY CHILD
TO THE DOCTOR OR ORTHODONSIT APPOINTMENT?
Come to the Main Office vestibule window and sign out your student
for their specific appointment. Our school secretary will call your
student for pick up.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY STUDENT’S CELL
PHONE, IPOD, OR LARGE SUM OF MONEY IS STOLEN?
Please remind your child of the importance of keeping lockers locked
at all times, not sharing their combination with a friend, and not
bringing valuables and large sums of money to school. Students are
expected to use their lockers and the school does not assume responsibility.
WHAT IS SOCIAL TIME?
Social time follows the scheduled lunch time. It can be compared
to “recess” in elementary school where students have
the opportunity to go outdoors. Students are expected to dress for
the weather. Student may choose to go outside unless inclement weather
occurs or the temperature drops into the lower ranges. When this
scenario occurs, students use the gym for physical activity. Students
also have the option of going to study hall for their normally scheduled
social time. The study hall is considered a quiet place to do homework
or read. If students are too active or social during the quiet study
hall they are asked to move to the physical activity setting (outdoors
or the gym) during the remainder of their social time.
WHAT TIME IS LUNCH AND WHERE DO THE KIDS
EAT THEIR LUNCH?
Students eat their lunch in the gym on long cafeteria style tables.
Refer to the daily schedule further in this booklet for grade specific
lunch times. The lunch hours are also posted on the website and
in the student agenda/planner.
WHAT KINDS OF ACTIVITIES ARE OFFERED FOR
STUDENTS AFTER SCHOOL AND HOW AND WHEN DO THEY JOIN?
Special opportunities exist for students to develop skills and interests
in their lives beyond the classroom. Refer to the section in this
booklet (Athletics and Activities) for more information. With regards
to clubs, most students can join at any time so encourage your student
to get involved. In all instances, use email to contact the coach
or sponsor for specifics on dates and times. Emails are listed further
along in this booklet. For after school sports, Cross Country includes
all students who regularly attend practice. Our other athletic programs
require tryouts to become eligible to participate on the team. Students
tryout for roles in the school plays and the annual Talent Show.
Students who are interested in the Theatre crew and backstage operations
are encouraged to sign up to attend regularly scheduled meetings
and practices. Also check the “Morning Announcements”
section on the front page of Westfield’s website for daily
events, tryout dates and meeting times.
WHEN ARE STP MEETINGS?
STP meets once each month on Tuesdays alternating between afternoon
and evening meetings. Check the Bloomingdale District 13 Calendar
distributed to all families or our D13 and Westfield website for
specific meeting times.
