As the principal of Westfield Middle School, I invite your student to get involved in our clubs, activities and athletic teams. It broadens the scope of your student’s perspectives and can help to promote positive overall attitudes about school. Students may join clubs throughout the year, not just in the beginning of school. Sports teams have specific seasons (fall, winter and spring), so check with the website to see when these athletic teams start their practices for that particular season.
Remember that for clubs, at the start of the school year, your student might not be sure what they want to do. Once they have observed some new activities, they may want to get involved. We all want to promote your student’s confidence and support their willingness to get involved, so encourage them to come on board even mid-year. The advisors and club participants are always looking for ways to expand their organizations.
I also encourage students to attend at least one social or athletic event that is scheduled. This may include an after school sports competition or a dance. These events help build school spirit and we encourage all our students to participate.
“Getting involved” is what it is all about! Kids can build relationships here at Westfield that are both productive and nurturing. New friends, meaningful experiences beyond the school day and feeling connected helps nurture your child’s self esteem and builds pride in our school and local community.
