REVEAL YOUR OWN STORY, ANONIMOUSLY
This is due back to the drama room by Thursday, Feb. 16th.
Everyone needs to submit, anonymously, a story about bullying that they have experienced either as the bully, the victim, or as a bystander. The best of these will be performed throughout the production of the revealers. Please put them in the drama room by this Thursday, February 16th.
The Revealers Spring Play 2012
February 13, 2012 – April 20, 2012
The Westfield Drama Department recognizes that participation in drama extracurricular activities is a privilege. Students participating in drama extracurricular activities are expected to be in good academic standing along with being an honorable representative of Westfield. Because participation is a privilege and not a right, students are held responsible for their academic levels of achievement and overall school success, as well as being held to their best behavior.
To remain eligible to participate in Westfield Drama activities, students need to adhere to the following:
1) Maintain a passing grade in ALL classes. If a student falls below 60% during rehearsals he or she will be given two weeks to bring the grade back up to eligibility standards. He or she will be excused from rehearsals for that time to allow them to concentrate on their schoolwork. If at the end of the two-week period, the grade remains below 60%, the student will be removed from the show and a replacement found. This policy will be enforced up to two weeks before the actual performance dates. If a student’s grade falls below 60% during the last two weeks before the performance, the student will be removed from the show immediately.
2) Any student absent from school for a half day or more many not participate in a rehearsal or performance for that day.
3) Students need to be picked up from rehearsals on time, which means within 15 minutes of announced time of dismissal. Three violations may mean removal from the show.
4) Drama rule #6: Never, ever intentionally hurt someone else, this means no hitting, pushing, etc.., but it also means no name calling or teasing. This is not limited to the rehearsal time. If it is found that cast/crew members are behaving in a bullying type manner (outside of their character during rehearsals), either in person or electronically (via text, Facebook, cell phone, etc…) students can be removed from the show.
5) If one is absent from school, he or she is excused from rehearsal. Any other absences from rehearsal must be prearranged with the directors in writing (via note or email) BEFORE that day in order to be considered excused. Two or more unexcused absences could result in being removed from the show.
6) Attendance is mandatory for all video staging and filming sessions for all cast crew members involved in those scenes. This will occur during the first week in April.
Attendance is mandatory for all cast and crew members during tech and dress rehearsals.
[Monday, April 16, 2011 through the final performance on Friday, April 20th, 2012.]
7) Rehearsals are closed to everyone except cast, crew and Westfield staff members.
(Please sign and return the form below to Mrs. Bringer or Mr. Taylor on or before February 16th)
I have read the above policy and understand that school is more important than drama. I agree to keep each of my grades at 60% or better. If I don’t, I understand that I will have two weeks to raise them. Failure to do so means I will be removed from the production. I have also checked the family calendar and all regular conflicts were marked on the audition application or have been listed on the back of this contract.

1) Costumes come from many places: the closet in the drama room; we borrow from Lake Park; we can rent from a professional costume business; from the actor’s house. Together we try to outfit every actor to the best of our ability. Shoes, underwear, and stockings need to be provided by each actor. If you are using borrowed/rented costumes, they need to be washed/dry cleaned and returned to school no more than a week after the close of the production. Any lost or torn items may result in a charge to the actor.
2) We ask that all cast/crew families donate either a food or drink item to the concession stand for sale at the evening performances. All monies collected go directly back into the drama program for use during the next production.
3) There are two evening rehearsals (4/17 and 4/18) until 8:00p.m. Meals will be provided at a cost. More information to follow.
4) Rehearsals are closed except to cast and crew members.
5) The day time performance on April 20 is for the students only.
6) Lines are to be memorized by March 15th. This is a difficult process, especially for those with a lot of lines. Parents are asked to help their actors by running lines with them, providing them with ample time without distractions, and checking in with them periodically to make sure they are making adequate progress.
7) Each actor needs his/her own makeup/hair products for the dress rehearsals/shows. A list will be sent home at a later date listing what each actor needs to bring in.
8) Each actor needs a laundry basket with their name on it to be brought into the drama room by April 9. This is used to help corral people’s personal belongings.
9) The script and a pencil need to be brought to every rehearsal.
10) A nutritional snack/drink is recommended for after school rehearsals.
11) For up to date information on schedules/handouts/etc… go to http://www.sd13.org/teachers/cbringer/ . Otherwise contact Mr. Taylor at ptaylor@sd13.org or Mrs. Bringer at cbringer@sd13.org.

Dear Parents of “the revealer” Cast:
Congratulations on your child(ren) being cast in Westfield’s drama production of Doug Wilhelm’s “the revealers”. The subject of the script is bullying and what can be done to confront this plight. It is a very sensitive topic. The students coming out for this production are very strong, but we will have help along the way. I’ve spoken with the guidance counselor and social worker and they will be available to help the cast as needed. We will be learning about the various types of bullying and what we can do to empower ourselves when faced in certain situations. One thing that we will learn is that no one is innocent in all of this. All people have or will have been on both sides of the fence, both as a bully and a victim. The fictional characters of Russell, Catalina, and Elliot have gathered people’s stories into their digital publication “the revealers”. Some of these stories did not fit our own students’ profiles, and we will not be performing those. We will be writing our own stories to supplement the script, for students numbered 13 to 20. I hope that if your student ever becomes uncomfortable or overwhelmed with the process of this production that he/she will talk it out with either myself, you, or the guidance councilor; rather than just quit.
Being in a play is a big commitment, both on the part of the student and their family. Picking the actors up from rehearsal, helping them to memorize their lines; picking out costumes; it is great fun, but a lot of work. Attendance is crucial. Attached is the rehearsal calendar. Please try to arrange any doctor/dentist appointments to not coincide with rehearsal times. I understand emergencies do happen. All I ask is that you notify me via email (cbringer@sd13.org) or phone 630. 529.6211, when your student has to miss a practice. Two unexcused absences (they don’t show up and you don’t call), may result in the removal from the production. Also, grades are very important. All students working with the production must be passing every class (see contract for details).
There will be a quick parent meeting at pick up time this Monday, February 14th at 4:45 to 5:00. This will be a time for us to answer any questions you may have about the entire play process.
Have a wonderful weekend! And we will see you Monday!
Mrs. Cynthia Bringer and Mr. Paul Taylor

From page to stage: The students in the music exploratory rotation are visiting Mrs. Bringer’s drama classroom to get a ‘taste of drama’. They are working on the bullying unit: where they define, show what it looks and sounds like; and then are going to act in and crew for a production of David Lubar’s The Substitute, script adapted by Mrs. Bringer. Mark your calendars for our two productions at 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5th.

We will be holding auditions for Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. You sign up for a 15 period for either Tues or Wed after school. Five students will come into the drama room and play some improv games, read from the script, and do some movements. There are 20 acting parts, but limitless backstage parts. We need people to design/build set, props, costumes, hair/makeup, program, concessions, poster, etc… If you like theatre and the drama involved, come try out for the play. If you do not like to be in the limelight, but want the drama, sign up for one of the crews outside the drama room (520). See Mrs. Bringer if you have any questions!
Introduction Talk Show Interview Movie
In groups of three you will be making a short video that introduces the various members of your group to the rest of the EAT class. Your members will take turns writing interview questions, acting as the ‘host’ or interviewer, being the person interviewed and answering the questions, and being the videographer. After filming is complete, you will upload it into Windows Movie Maker and add simple opening and closing credits.
The groups of three have to include at least 2 different grade levels and /or members of opposite genders.
