Information Literacy
STANDARD 1: The student uses a variety of tools to access information efficiently and effectively.
Indicators
1. Recognizes that accurate and comprehensive information is the basis for intelligent decision making
2. Formulates questions based on information needs
3. Identifies a variety of potential sources of information and can determine when technology resources are useful
4. Develops and uses successful strategies for locating information
STANDARD 2: The student uses a variety of tools to evaluate information critically and competently.
Indicators
1. Determines accuracy, relevance and comprehensiveness
2. Distinguishes among fact, point of view and opinion in print and online resources
3. Identifies inaccurate and misleading information in print and online resources
STANDARD 3: The student uses a variety of tools to use information accurately and creatively.
Indicators
1. Organizes information for practical application, using technology when appropriate
2. Integrates new information into one’s own knowledge
3. Produces and communicates information and ideas in appropriate formats
Independent Learning
STANDARD 4: The student uses a variety of resources for problem solving and making informed decisions for real world application.
Indicators
1. Applies information in critical thinking and problem solving
2. Selects and uses appropriate technology resources to accomplish a variety of tasks and solve problems
STANDARD 5: The student appreciates literature and other creative expressions of information.
Indicators
1. Is a competent and self-motivated reader
2. Uses a variety of resources and formats for information and personal enjoyment
3. Reads a broad range of genres
4. Reads regularly for pleasure
5. Extrapolates ideas from creative sources and applies to personal experiences
STANDARD 6: The student uses telecommunications and a variety of media and formats to pursue, generate and communicate information.
Indicators
1. Derives meaning from information presented creatively in a variety of formats
2. Collaborates with peers, experts and others using telecommunications and collaborative tools to investigate curriculum-related problems, issues and information, and to develop solutions or products for audiences inside and outside the classroom
STANDARD 7: The student uses technology and other media to support lifelong learning and personal pursuits.
Indicators
1. Seeks information related to various dimensions of personal well-being, such as career interests, community involvement, health matters, and recreational pursuits
2. Designs, develops and evaluates information products and solutions related to personal interests
3. Assesses the quality of the process and products of personal information seeking
4. Devises strategies for revising, improving and updating self-generated knowledge
Social Responsibility
STANDARD 8: The student understands the importance of the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to information literacy and the use of technology, and practices safe and responsible behavior.

1. Seeks information from diverse sources, contexts, disciplines and cultures
2. Respects the principle of equitable access to information
3. Respects the principles of intellectual freedom
4. Respects intellectual property rights
5. Uses technology responsibly and safely
STANDARD 9: The student collaborates and uses a variety of media and formats to pursue, generate, communicate and publish information.

1. Shares knowledge and information with others
2. Respects others’ ideas and backgrounds and acknowledges their contributions
3. Collaborates with others, both in person and through technologies, to identify information problems and to seek their solutions
4. Collaborates with others, both in person and through technologies, to design, develop and evaluate information products and solutions

STANDARD 10: The student demonstrates a sound understanding of the nature and operation of technology systems.
Indicators
1. Operates hardware and software efficiently and effectively
2. Communicates about technology using developmentally appropriate and accurate terminology
3. Discusses common uses of technology in daily life and the advantages and disadvantages those uses provide
4. Demonstrates knowledge of current changes in information technologies and the effect those changes have on the workplace and society
STANDARD 11: The student is proficient in the use of technology tools that enhance learning, increase productivity, promote creativity, process data and report results.
Indicators
1. Develops creative products in a variety of formats
2. Designs, develops, publishes and presents products using technology resources that demonstrate and communicate curriculum concepts to audiences inside and outside the classroom
3. Applies productivity / multimedia tools and peripherals to support personal productivity
4. Uses content-specific tools, software and simulations to support learning and research
