WHAT'S HAPPENING IN NOVEMBER? |
READING |
MATH |
We have begun our second reading book called, Let's Be Friends. We will be reading both fiction and non-fiction selections in this book. We will continue to work on the short vowel sounds as well as final endings and beginning blends. Our new comprehension strategy will be predicting. We will practice using clues in the text to predict what will happen or what new information we will be learning. Sometimes good readers change their predictions as they read and so we will practice this skill also. Encourage your child to use these comprehension strategies at home as you read with them. |
Unit 4 in our Math program is called Adding to Solve Problems. In this unit we will practice writing addition sentences and understanding language associated with addition. One strategy used for addition will be 'counting on'. Ask your child to explain this concept to you.
Our next unit will deal with grouping and counting. We will practice counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. At the end of the unit, we will work on data collection again and compile data that we will transfer to a data table. |
